Star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra met Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya here on Friday after concluding an eventful season studded with an Olympic silver medal and a second-place finish in the Diamond League grand final.

The 26-year-old Chopra returned home after becoming the first Indian track and field athlete to claim back-to-back Olympic medals by adding silver in Paris after winning a memorable gold in Tokyo three years ago.

The two-time Olympic medalist ended his season with a second-place finish at the Diamond League finals in Brussels.

“Today we met our Olympic champion @Neeraj_chopra1 in New Delhi. Sending him best wishes for the future,” Mandaviya tweeted.

Chopra was accompanied by his uncle Bhim.

On Friday, Chopra attended an event in Sonepat and attended a conference on ‘Mission Olympics 2036’ organized at Haryana Sports University.

Chopra struggled with an adductor muscle problem throughout the year and it affected his performance at both the Olympics and the DL finals, where he also competed with a broken left hand.

He had talked about consulting doctors at the end of the season to decide whether to undergo surgery to correct the problem.

At the Paris Olympics, his silver winning throw was 89.45 meters and he was defeated by Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who broke the Olympic record with an effort of 92.97 meters.

At the DL final, Chopra threw 87.86 meters, missing first place by just one centimeter.
