Richard Jefferson blames Lakers front office for hiring criticism of JJ Redick

The Los Angeles Lakers enter the upcoming season with JJ Redick as their new head coach. While you could argue that the former NBA player is a good media analyst, many fans are concerned about Redick’s inexperience as a coach. This has created a lot of criticism, both for the Lakers organization and the newly hired coach himself. For Richard Jefferson, however, no one is responsible for the response other than the Lakers’ front office.

“A lot of the criticism, in my opinion, had to do with JJ, and a lot of it had to do with the Lakers and their organization,” Jefferson said during a recent episode of the Road Trippin’ podcast. . “For example, let’s play a hypothetical game. If Pop (Gregg Popovich) retired and JJ got that job, and Pop went into the front office and was Pat Riley, and they said of JJ ‘you’re going to be Erik Spoelstra’… I think the criticism would be exponentially lower. You view the organization as a stable place. Okay, this is how they’re going to do it. They’re going to build a young team and things like that.”

“I think the criticism of JJ was a little unfair, but I think it was more because the Lakers were so up and down. So you say okay, you’re going to throw someone who everyone thinks has an intelligent basketball mind and has the will and desire to do it, but you’re going to put him in a situation that historically, and I say historically he has since the departure of Phil Jackson had in and out coaches. And I think that part fell more on JJ,” Jefferson added.
