Domino’s garlic and herb dip sells for £9,999 on eBay after recall | UK News

If you recently ordered a pizza from Domino’s and forgot to open the pizza dip, your pension is basically sorted.

Last week, the pizza chain pulled its dips containing the ingredients Garlic & Herb and Honey & Mustard due to allergy concerns.

Trace amounts of peanuts were found in both products, “making them a potential health risk to allergy sufferers,” food safety officials said.

The recall involved the 100 gram and 25 gram garlic and herb dip pots and the 25 gram honey and mustard dip.

On September 17, Domino’s immediately stopped selling the jars and sent customers an email telling them to throw away any leftover dip and not to eat it.

But the thing is, that’s easier said than done. Brits love garlic and herb dip – seriously. A survey by Domino’s found that people ate enough garlic and herb dip to fill 17 Olympic swimming pools by 2023.

While it appears you can now order the dip on Domino’s website, some people more interested in making money than pizza are selling expired jars of garlic and herb dip on eBay.

One copy, which goes on sale in November, is apparently the ‘last one!!!’ according to the seller and costs £9.9990 – with PayPal credit it will cost you £471.60 a month for 24 months.

There’s no mention of how big the dip is, but as a reminder, a 25g one at Domino’s costs £0.69.

Others are hoping for a little less, from an ‘unopened and registered’ pot for £499 and a ‘VERY RARE’ pot with a starting bid of a penny.

There are three more ‘new and unopened (very rare)’ garlic and herb jars for sale in another advert, with a starting bid of £30. (No one has placed a bid yet.)

A 100g jar is being sold by someone in Leatherhead for £50, with offers starting at £1. ‘Unopened and chilled,’ they insist. This is a big selling point.

“This Dominos Garlic and Herb Dip is a rare find for any sauce lover. With its discontinued status, it is a must-have for collectors and fans alike,” the eBay seller said.

‘The dip is perfect for adding flavor to any dish, whether it’s pizza or a sandwich. The pantry is the ideal food aisle for this dip, and it’s sure to be a hit with anyone who enjoys different sauces.

“It’s a great addition to any condiment collection and is perfect for home or restaurant use. Don’t miss the chance to own this rare and sought-after dip.”

In a statement from the Food Standards Agency (FSA), Domino’s is advising people who bought the affected products before September 15 to ‘throw them away’.

FGS Ingredients Ltd, a supplier of catering products and beverages, has recalled a range of dips and sauces containing mustard powder.

Recalls don’t mean a product is gone forever. Typically, customers are urged to return or throw away a product purchased before a certain date because it’s unsafe.

While the manufacturer works on the problem, the product is removed from the supply chain, but it usually ends up back on shelves and menus.

This is different from a withdrawal, where the product is removed from the supply chain before it reaches the consumer.
