Real Madrid to play 2024 FIFA Intercontinental Cup final in Qatar | Football News

Real Madrid automatically qualify for the final of the first annual FIFA Intercontinental Cup in December in Doha, Qatar.

European Champions League winners Real Madrid will play the final of the inaugural FIFA Intercontinental Cup in Qatar, world football’s governing body has announced.

The competition, which involves club teams from all over the world, consists of five matches. The final will take place on 18 December, and the Spanish giants automatically qualify for it.

The day of the final is also celebrated as Qatar’s national day and also marks the two-year anniversary of the 2022 World Cup final, in which Argentina defeated France.

The tournament, which was announced in December last year, will replace the annual Club World Cup tournament, which will be played every four years with 32 teams from 2025.

“The opportunity to host another prestigious football tournament is a testament to Qatar’s ability to host world-class sporting events,” Minister of Youth and Sports Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani said in a statement.

“Two years after the biggest FIFA World Cup in history, we are proud to host the 2024 FIFA Intercontinental Cup. We look forward to welcoming some of the world’s best players for another great event to showcase the legacy of 2022.”

Real Madrid will be the global winner of the Champions League

Asian Champions League winners Al Ain will host Oceanic Champions League winners Auckland City for the first time in the Africa-Asia-Pacific Cup play-offs on September 22. The winners will face African Champions League winners Al Ahly in Cairo on October 29.

The first two games will be played at the home field of the highest ranked team, so that the locals can watch their club play.

The action then moves to Doha, Qatar, where the winners of the 2024 South American Libertadores will play Mexico’s Pachuca, winners of the CONCACAF (North and Central America and the Caribbean) Champions Cup, on December 11. The match is being dubbed the “Derby of the Americas” by FIFA.

The winners of these two matches will play each other three days later in the Challenger Cup to secure a place in the Intercontinental Cup final against Real Madrid on December 18.
