Alas, my horrible lords, Choose a clothing style that makes an impression doesn’t have many options for you. That’s why we have to rely heavily on wearing black clothes and the messiest hair possible.

In terms of clothing, the leather jacket, the tight t-shirt and the tighter jeans are the best choices. The studded belt is a great accessory and any shoe will do because they all look the same when painted black.

When it comes to dyeing clothes black, don’t forget all the different sections. Black shoes with green accents just look weird. Also, don’t make everything jet black or you’ll lose the details. A dark grey will still give the look, but it will make the details pop.

As for the hair, I layered different styles to make it as big and messy as possible. I also applied the same dye rules with some hair pieces that are dark brown or dark gray. Black is great, but not at the expense of looking like a blob.

Choose a clothing style that makes an impression has exponentially more options for a would-be Siouxsie. The heavy boots are an easy choice thanks to the alternatives that are largely variations of a stiletto. The sheer leggings go beautifully with the pleated skirt. As for the top, I wore a knotted sweater over a cami. A jeweled necklace dyed in black works well as a choker.

The nails are painted black and our face is the only one with black lipstick. The hair is an amalgamation of different styles layered on top of each other to create that iconic look. Each one is a subtly different shade so as not to look like a shapeless mass.

What is Trad Goth?

Trad goth is a fashion style within the goth “subculture”. It stems from the rise of its namesake, the traditional goth culture that emerged in the 1980s. Notable examples of pioneers include the bands Bauhaus, Joy Division, and Siouxsie and the Banshees.

It grew out of the punk movement that began a decade earlier in the 1970s, with the term “gothic” being used to describe the mood and atmosphere that shows exuded. The music stood in stark contrast to the pop music of the time and served as a beacon for many.

In the decades since, people have taken the basics and adapted them, eventually leading to evolutionary styles. Deathrock, Victorian, and cybergoth are some of the most common styles in the West. That’s not to say that goth culture is limited to these places. Visual Kei emerged in Japan around the same time, and later gothic styles were championed by groups like Dir En Grey and Malice Mizer.
