Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese had a solid debut season in the WNBA and might have been a contender for Rookie of the Year honors had he not suffered a wrist injury.

A potential WNBA MVP title was not in the cards for Reese, however, and neither were other rookies. Some did mention Caitlin Clark, who led the Indiana Fever to a great run after the Olympics and brought the team to a sixth place in the playoffs.

Clark did finish fourth in the WNBA MVP voting, but she received no first-place votes, as Las Vegas Aces center A’ja Wilson won the hardware unanimously. Reese received exactly one vote.

Reese was given fourth place for the award, which earned her three points. She averaged a double-double — 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game. Reese’s vote prompted questions on social media.

Chicago failed to reach the playoffs after making it five straight and winning the 2021 WNBA title under then-head coach James Wade.

Chennedy Carter led the team with 17.5 points per game, starting only 20 of the 35 games she appeared in. She did not receive an MVP vote. Marina Mabrey had 14 points per game, but she was traded to the Connecticut Sun before the Olympic break. Reese was behind her in that category.
