Australian Grace Brown wins women’s time trial at World Cycling Championships, men’s race to follow

ZURICH (AP) — Olympic champion Grace Brown finally won the women’s time trial at the world cycling championships in Switzerland on Sunday.

The 32-year-old Australian, who finished second at the World Championships the past two years, completed the 29.9-kilometre route from Gossau to Zurich in 39 minutes and 16 seconds.

She finished 17 seconds ahead of Dutch Demi Vollering and 56 seconds ahead of reigning champion Chloe Dygert from the United States, who also finished third in the time trial at the Olympic Games in Paris last month.

Brown also became national champion this year, winning the prestigious Liège-Bastogne-Liège classic, where Vollering came third.
