Arne Slot delighted with Ryan Gravenberch’s performances

Despite losing to Nottingham Forest at Anfield last weekend, Arne Slot has to be pleased with the way his start as Liverpool manager has gone.

Callum Hudson-Odoi’s brilliant goal was the first they have conceded in the Premier League, more than three and a half games into the 2024/25 season.

The ease with which he has worked his way into the dugout will not have gone unnoticed by anyone, especially Liverpool fans accustomed to the energetic play of Jurgen Klopp.

Although Slot is not as visible as his predecessor, the image of the quiet man should not be misjudged. It is obvious that he takes his responsibilities just as seriously.

As was evident from the substitution of Trent Alexander-Arnold, the Dutchman is not interested in making decisions that will undoubtedly be unpopular.

No playing position seems safe – and it should be at the top level – and in practice this means that any player who shows the right commitment in training and delivers the right performance in matches will have the chance to impress.

Arne Slot impressed by Liverpool attacker Ryan Gravenberch

Take Ryan Gravenberch for example.

He is used sparingly by Klopp, but has quickly become a key player in Slots Liverpool team, so much so that the manager cannot help but continue to praise him in the media.

“Now you see a Ryan who is full of confidence,” he was quoted as saying by CaughtOffside columnist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on X (formerly Twitter).

“That normally comes from good performances and the confidence in your teammates, knowing that you can do what you have to do at that level.

“(…) If I could have bought Martin Zubimendi, then maybe I could have rotated a bit more and the media would have been much happier with that!

“But there’s no point in talking about him because he stayed at Real Sociedad. We are so happy with Gravenberch.”
