Titans get a big boost in Destiny 2’s next episode, Revenant

Titans in Destiny 2 are getting a number of buffs to their abilities soon, bringing the experience of playing as the beefy subclass a little more in line with the fantasy world and making it more useful in endgame activities.

Bungie announced the balance changes it’s making to Titans on its weekly This Week in Destiny blog, outlining a slate of adjustments coming in October with the release of the game’s next episode, Revenant. The big takeaway is that Bungie hopes that playing as a Titan—the tanky, slightly muscular of Destiny 2’s three character subclasses—will feel a bit more like the fantasy of playing as a frontline fighter with a penchant for smashing and slicing through opponents.

That doesn’t necessarily mean Titans are getting stronger in a martial sense, though; instead, Bungie is tweaking various elements of the Titan build in other ways. The one that will more visibly affect players is that the Titan Barricade ability now taunts enemies, redirecting their fire away from teammates and toward the barrier itself.

The Titan Barricade is an energy wall that Titans can lay down on the battlefield, either in full versions that act as a large shield or as a smaller piece of cover that players can shoot over. At the moment, it basically just functions as a wall that you can hide behind for a few seconds before heading back into the fight, but enemies will still target players behind the wall or when they’re away from it. The idea here is that enemies will prioritize shooting at the barricade in most cases until it’s destroyed, increasing its defensive functionality by allowing Titans to use it to take some of the heat off of teammates even if said teammates aren’t actually behind it.

Barricades are also getting more powerful going forward, taking 50% less damage from regular enemies, so they’ll generally last longer in PvE activities. They’ll also grant better protection against explosive splash damage, with Bungie increasing that protection from 20% to 60% for anyone standing behind a barricade. The buffs will also apply to the Sentinel Shield Super ability, in which players generate a shield in front of them that they wield as they move around, and when using the Unbreakable aspect, in which players generate a personal shield that absorbs damage — both of which now have additional defensive uses beyond just making yourself harder to kill.

Bungie is also working on a few other tweaks, making it easier for various Titan abilities to destroy Stasis crystals they create to deal freezing damage to nearby enemies—another way Titans should get a boost to their viability without Bungie specifically increasing their damage output. One place Titans do get a damage boost, however, is in their punches. Titans are supposed to be the class that goes for brawn more often than other characters, so their non-powered melees are getting a 5% boost against players and 20% against PvE enemies.

The blog also detailed a number of other tweaks Bungie is rolling out with the Revenant update, including adjustments to several “roaming” Super abilities — the ones players use to move around, like the Hunter’s Golden Gun and Spectral Blades, or the Warlock’s Chaos Reach and Stormtrance. Those Supers are getting increased damage reduction when used in PvE, and several are also getting minor buffs to make them slightly more useful against enemies.
