‘It’s going to fail’ – Pundit makes worrying prediction about Newcastle despite strong start

Chris Sutton was underwhelmed by Newcastle United at the start of the season and believes they will be ‘in trouble soon’.

The Magpies are level on 10 points, Arsenal are second and besides the Gunners, Manchester City, Brighton and Nottingham Forest are the only teams still unbeaten in the Premier League after four games.

That said, all three of Newcastle’s victories so far have been by just one goal, with their EFL Cup victory away at Forest coming on penalties.

Eddie Howe’s side also sit third in the Premier League for goals conceded (66) and have allowed their opponents to generate an xGA of 6.52, suggesting their tally of three goals conceded will not be the norm for the remainder of the season.

Newcastle ‘will be a failure’, says Sutton

Newcastle travel to Fulham this weekend, with the Cottagers unbeaten in their last five games in all competitions, excluding penalties.

Former Blackburn Rovers and Celtic striker Sutton predicted a 1-1 draw, which would of course see Newcastle go into the match unbeaten.

However, he is not happy with what he has seen from the Magpies so far and expects the situation to change quickly if current performances continue.

“Newcastle are still an unknown quantity for me as I can’t say I’ve been particularly impressed with them so far,” Sutton wrote in his predictions column for BBC Sport.

“Ultimately Eddie Howe’s team will come out on top, but at the moment they are finding a way to win games, albeit relying on moments of individual brilliance rather than team play.”

On the outcome of the match at Craven Cottage, Sutton added: “They’re the side that’s hard to predict because I was right with a 1-1 draw for Fulham last week. So I’m going for the same result… even though I’m more expecting them to win this game than Newcastle.”
