‘Class act’ English proves Celtic worth on big stage

Celtic and England face much tougher tests in the Champions League.

Next up is an away match against last season’s finalist Borussia Dortmund, followed by another away match against Europa League champions Atalanta.

However, favourable home games against Young Boys and Club Brugge, plus an away game against Dinamo Zagreb (who conceded nine goals to Bayern Munich), mean that a place in the play-off round is at least a real possibility for Celtic.

And while Engels excelled in midfield, it was a great team performance full of intensity that got the job done in style against Slovan Bratislava.

The Belgian will play a key role in any case and his message is that he has only just begun.

“A lot,” Engels told BBC Scotland when asked how much he can improve. “I’ve only been here a week and a half or so.

“I have to build relationships with the boys and work on every detail during training. And also seeing footage of my game will help me to improve.

“I hope it only gets better. I think so.”
