Novak Djokovic reveals fights with wife Jelena over strict parenting rules for their children

NOVAK DJOKOVIC is perhaps the best tennis player of all time.

But that doesn’t make him immune to debate over his strict parenting methods.

The lovestruck Djokovic, 37, has two children with his childhood sweetheart Jelena, whom he married in 2014.

Son Stefan is nine and daughter Tara is seven.

However, the way they raise their children has led to some disagreements between Novak and Jelena, especially when it comes to the ominous topic of cell phone rules.

Speaking at the Davis Cup this week, Djokovic told Blic: “My children still don’t have a mobile phone, my wife and I argue about it.

“The kids complain, ‘Everyone at school has one except us.’

“It’s not easy and you see that at other levels too.

“If everyone is doing something, and the herd is behaving that way, then you have to follow them.

“Well, that doesn’t have to be the case. I think that’s where we differ from others, because we are stubborn and active.”

Djokovic also spoke candidly about his role within the family during Wimbledon, but Jelena rolled her eyes.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion, who celebrated his Centre Court victories by pretending to play the violin after Tara started lessons, was cheered on throughout the tournament by his wife and children.

During an interview with Tennis Channel, Djokovic said: “Of the two parents, I am the one who is responsible for their activities, sports and healthy lifestyle.”

When he saw his wife’s response, he smiled and continued, “Exactly, she’s rolling her eyes right now as I speak!”

“I keep reminding them how important it is to be active and play sports, whether it’s tennis or something else.

“A lot of families and children of other players come, so it’s a great experience for them too.

New careers of tennis stars

MANY tennis stars remain involved in the sport after retirement.

But others pursued very different careers. Here are some of the best…

“It’s a great camp! It’s fun because I get to spend quality time with them and my wife and they have friends too.”

Djokovic reached the Wimbledon final but lost disappointingly to Carlos Alcaraz, twelve months after their successful five-set match.

However, the Serb took revenge at the Paris Olympics by beating Alcaraz to secure a precious gold medal for his country.

An emotional Djokovic, who became the third man to complete the Golden Slam of all four majors plus Olympic gold, called his success at Roland Garros last month “the greatest achievement and the biggest highlight of my career”.

His disappointing early exit at the US Open meant he was unable to add to his Grand Slam tally this year, as Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner both claimed victory in the second half.

Djokovic needs just one more win to surpass Margaret Court and become the all-time leader in Majors.
