Hammers were told they should have signed Toney, not Fullkrug

So far, things haven’t been going so well for Niclas Fullkrug at West Ham United.

The German international arrived in East London as a highly-rated striker, but he has failed to impress for Julen Lopetegui’s side. The fact that veteran Michail Antonio has been chosen in his place speaks volumes.

The fact that he suffered an injury during his international spell has not calmed the unrest surrounding his move, and former Hammers striker Frank McAvennie is just one of those weighing in on the row.

Frank McAvennie tells West Ham Ivan Toney was a better option than Fullkrug

“I wanted Ivan Toney. £50 million, there’s your money, done“, he told West Ham Zone.

I think he would have been great for West Ham but he left for big money in Saudi Arabia. He should have been signed instead of Fullkrug.

As ever with McAvennie, this is a candid opinion and one that is unlikely to go down well with the Hammers powers that be.

Tim Steidten has done his utmost this summer to bring in some of the best talent, and for a reasonable price.

The fact that things still don’t click between them and Lopetegui is not something the technical director can be blamed for.
