Arne Slot gives supporters an exciting update

One of the classic Champions League matches takes place on Tuesday night, when Liverpool take on Milan at the San Siro.

It is Arne Slot’s first chance to see how his Reds perform against the best side the continent has to offer. And with the Rossoneri having started their Serie A campaign with just one win from their opening four games, the Dutchman believes Liverpool have a chance.

The new format of the Champions League means that exciting matches such as Milan-Liverpool will now take place in the early stages of the competition, rather than from the round of 16 onwards.

Arne Slot to deploy Liverpool star in Milan

Whether this adjustment by UEFA will prove to be a masterstroke remains to be seen.

Ahead of the match, Slot addressed the press and gave an update that is likely to get Liverpool fans excited.

“For the first time he (Federico Chiesa) is in the team selection tomorrow,” he was quoted as saying by CaughtOffside columnist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on Xformerly Twitter.

“Don’t expect him to start, but he could play a few minutes.”

It is Chiesa’s first chance to impress the Reds fans at a stadium he has played at several times during his club career in Italy’s top flight.

Chiesa’s participation also gives Slot the opportunity to adjust his formation, which could be the deciding factor in convincing the visitors if necessary.

Thanks to the new format, it is unlikely that even a loss in the opening game will damage Liverpool’s chances of promotion. However, it is a foregone conclusion that everyone involved with the club expects the 2024/25 edition of Europe’s premier club competition to start in the best possible way.
