The demo of this action roguelite contains more stuff than some full games, plus some very good goblins

Despite all the nightmarish enshittification that modern life throws at us, at least we can feel warm and fuzzy about the revival of demos. They’re waiting for you in abundance on Steam, like a friendly employee offering you cheese-skewered bits at your local convenience store. And, oh, look: that cheese has some weapons in it. Deeply customizable weapons! SULFUR is a gun-toting roguelike with some excellent goblins and a deep RPG loadout system. And, if the Steam reviews are to be believed, some players are squeezing dozens of hours out of the demo alone.

At the heart of this eternal cheese-stopper is dungeon crawling and building your build. To aid your goblin bashing, you’ll discover a variety of weapon upgrades, spell ingredients, and other gear, then combine them in creative ways to make for some fun violence.

“I like violence, but I need context!” you bellow. Calm down, please. Here it is:

Plan ahead to outwit enemies and navigate a world filled with dark creatures and devious evil. Wield playful and tangible weapons in visceral and intense combat. Craft creative builds with weapons, armor, tools, and enchantments to aid your quest. Be a gun-slinging risk-taker or plan strategies carefully. Playstyles abound – the choice is yours.

Experience the atmosphere, tension and trials of a world in redemption. What happened? Why did it happen? Travel through misty valleys, dark forests, squalid Black Guild shanties, and through castle walls and beyond. Go deeper, go straight in. Answers will come to those who listen.

I found this because someone on Twazzer praised the roadmap, which includes milestones like “fixing shit” and “guns & magic”. Also, the patch notes sometimes include recipes for rhubarb sauce. I don’t like rhubarb, but I do like this. It’s coming out in October.
