You know those abandoned roller coasters you see rolling into New Orleans? Change is coming

If you’ve ever driven from the coast to New Orleans and seen those abandoned roller coasters on the left side of Interstate 10 as you drove into town, we’ve got news for you. Things are changing.

Axios New Orleans reports that contractors are expected to begin demolishing rides at the former Six Flags site next month. If all goes well, most of the old structures will be torn down within five months.

A development company has plans to develop the site into youth sports fields, hotels, shops, a film studio and a water park.

The Times-Picayune reported last year that the city had reached an agreement with a development group called Bayou Phoenix. The Six Flags site was flooded during Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and never reopened. It has been a bit of an eyesore since then, but has since become a popular spot for filmmakers.

Bayou Phoenix hopes to finish construction on the project in 2027, Axios reported. A name is still pending.
