McDonald’s teams up with Genshin Impact for app-exclusive promotion

McDonald’s is teaming up with the anime-inspired video game Genshin Impact, offering in-game rewards and limited-edition menu items that are only available through the chain’s app. Starting September 17, fans can order a Genshin Impact Apple Pie, which comes in limited-edition packaging featuring two characters from the game: Kaedehara Kazuha and Beidou.

Fans who purchase the cake through the McDonald’s app will be rewarded with in-game items, such as 40 Primogems, three exclusive Golden Apple Pastries, and a “Golden Apple Pastry” recipe that can enhance players’ fighting power as they adventure through Genshin Impact’s fantasy world, Teyvat.

Additionally, McDonald’s is offering the Genshin Impact Deluxe McCrispy Meal, which includes a Deluxe McCrispy chicken sandwich, fries, the limited edition apple pie, and a drink. Purchasing this meal through the app will unlock exclusive in-game items such as the “Wings of Delicacies” Wind Glider and a “Celebration: Crispy and Sweet” Namecard that players can use to decorate their journey throughout the game.

Genshin Impact is produced by HoYoverse, which also creates virtual experiences such as Honkai: Star Rail, Honkai Impact 3rdTears of Themis and Zenless Zone. The Genshin Impact game is incredibly popular, with nearly 140 million downloads since its launch in 2020, according to esports.com. It also has around 10 million daily users and 65 million monthly users.

By appealing to these fans with mobile-only offers, McDonald’s could reach its goal of having 250 million active 90-day loyalty members by the end of 2027, up from 150 million today.

The chain’s Genshin Impact promotion follows its collaboration with the anime series Jujutsu Kaisen, which included a Special Grade Garlic Sauce, and the launch of the “WcDonald’s” restaurant in February, complete with new sauce and packaging. To celebrate the latest collaboration, McDonald’s social channels have been redesigned to look like Teyvat.
