PS5 Pro preorders go live on September 26

The PS5 Pro has a larger GPU that Sony says enables 45% faster rendering and support for enhanced visual technologies like AI-powered upscaling and advanced ray tracing. It also comes with a 2TB SSD, which is double the base storage of the PS5 Slim models. That storage space is pretty significant from a cost perspective, as adding 1TB to existing PS5 models typically costs around $100 – or more if you opt for the latest NVMe SSDs from Samsung or Western Digital.

The console also gets a minimal design refresh, with wider “racing stripes” on the side panels. It ships with a standard DualSense 5 controller. Additional DualSense controllers will cost $75-$80 each, depending on color, reflecting a $5 price increase that went into effect this week.

The PS5 Pro’s 2TB SSD means it can hold more games than the launch and Slim PS5 models, but if you plan on playing physical games on the PS5 Pro, you’ll also need the PS5 Disc Drive attachment. This $80 add-on launched last holiday for the PS5 Slim Digital, but is also compatible with the upcoming PS5 Pro. It’s available now from Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, and GameStop, and you’d probably want to grab one ahead of the PS5 Pro’s November 7 release date just in case they sell out.
