The Los Angeles Lakers have the sixth best odds in the West to win the championship. It seems that sportsbook FanDuel believes in the exceptionality of the Lakers.

This team is anything but exceptional; it is barely average.

The Lakers finished seventh last season and were knocked out of the playoffs by the Nuggets. Their most significant change this offseason was the firing of Darvin Ham and the hiring of JJ Redick. Aside from adding a few rookies, the roster has remained the same.

Los Angeles didn’t make a big deal at the trade deadline last year, didn’t make a move in the draft and was quiet in free agency. Outside of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, there’s not a ton of talent on the roster. Austin Reeves is a good role player, but D’Angelo Russell isn’t a playoff-caliber starter. Dalton Knecht is a good rookie, but he’s not going to solve their problems.
