Angel Reese’s debut season is over.

The Chicago Sky forward reached out to X to announce she would miss the remainder of the 2024 WNBA season. She played in the Sky game on Friday and took the stage on Saturday to express her gratitude for the fans’ support in her first season:

What a year. I never thought the last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3 but maybe God said they needed a taste of what they’ll see more of in year 2 lol🥲Throughout everything I’ve shown that I belong in this league even when no one else believed in it.… photo.twitter.com/re1X85mWR2

“What a year. I never thought the last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3 but maybe God was telling them to get a taste of what they were about to see in year 2 lol🥲Throughout everything I showed that I belong in this league even when no one else believed in me. All I ever wanted was to get to the W and make an impact. I can confidently say that I did that and will strive to continue to do so. I am filled with emotions right now that I am coming off a season ending injury but also filled with so much gratitude for what is to come. Even though this is God’s timing and not mine, I can finally give myself a physical and mental break. “God gives His toughest battles to His strongest soldiers.”

Reese was listed as doubtful was unavailable for Sunday’s Sky match due to a wrist injury. It appears she and the franchise decided it was best to sit her out for the final six games of the regular season.

The rookie averaged 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 34 games for the Sky. She set the single-season record for rebounding and was considered a top candidate for Rookie of the Year.

She should still remain in contention, but her opponents, most notably Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark, will get an extra chance to improve their value while she remains on par with her passing stats.

Reese has had a very long year, as the WNBA season started shortly after her final college season at LSU began. Now she can focus on recovery and being ready for 2025 and beyond.
