A Detroit Lions fan made a last-ditch effort to prove his seasoned qualities.

X user Michael Luchies shared a photo of his previous season ticket receipts after his status was called into question. One of the years Luchies had tickets was 2008, when the Lions went winless:

You could pick out just about any piece of modern Lions history and their fans would have enough heartache to utter the monologue “Tears in the Rain” Blade RunnerThe franchise has wavered for decades between irredeemably bad, average, and just good enough to get your hopes up before disappointing you at just the right moment.

That changed last year when Detroit won the division title for the first time since 1993 and moved just one half away from reaching the Super Bowl.

Now, Lions fans find themselves in the unusual position of rooting for a team that’s expected to be a legitimate contender and is popular among neutral NFL followers. Even putting aside the story of a historical underdog winning outright, Dan Campbell’s team has averaged the third-most yards (394.8) and the fifth-most points (27.1) in 2023.

The better Detroit does on the field, the more interest there will be.

For many in the Motor City, this current run promises to be a well-deserved reward after years of pointless hustling.
