Leaked PlayStation 5 Pro design seemingly confirmed by official Sony 30th anniversary artwork

A recently leaked image reportedly showing Sony’s much-hyped but still officially under-the-radar PlayStation 5 Pro has seemingly received confirmation from an unexpected source. A near-identical design has now been spotted in the background of Sony’s recently revealed official PlayStation 30th anniversary artwork.

Last week, prolific leaker bilbil-kun shared details of Sony’s as-yet unannounced PS5 Pro, along with an illustration of its exterior. While it largely retained the PS5’s familiar open-shirt design, it did feature one notable change: instead of the single diagonal stripe seen on the PlayStation Slim’s body, the leaked PS5 Pro design featured three diagonal ribbed lines.

Keep that in mind as we now hurtle through time to the present and Sony’s recently announced PlayStation 30th anniversary celebrations. Alongside details about the anniversary activities – which included the release of several digital soundtracks and a new lineup of toys – Sony shared new anniversary artwork featuring a gray cross, triangle, circle and square made up of various PlayStation consoles and peripherals.

And there, right between the PlayStation logo and a big ol’ number three, sits something that doesn’t resemble a currently-released PlayStation device, but it does look awfully familiar: a large rectangular machine with three distinct diagonal ridges running down the side. So yeah, this might just be our first official, albeit indirect, confirmation of the PS5 Pro’s existence.

And if last week’s design is accurate, it seems fair to assume that other details bilbil-kun shared (that the PS5 Pro will be a digital-only model, potentially with support for the PS5 disc drive add-on) are as well. It’s also been rumored that Sony would formally announce the console this month, so with official artwork now apparently out in the wild, we could be on the cusp of a full reveal.

Eurogamer and Digital Foundry have been following the road to the PS5 Pro’s release since leaks first surfaced last summer. Since then, technical specs for the PS5 Pro have surfaced online, which Eurogamer understands to be accurate, with an analysis from Digital Foundry calling the PS5 Pro “the most powerful console ever built.” News in April that Sony was preparing a “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label for new and older patched games to take advantage of the upcoming hardware emerged, and yet more technical details leaked in May. Hopefully the full reveal will be revealed soon.
