Denver Nuggets head coach Mike Malone may not be on the same page with the organization for the 2024-25 season.

“There are rumors,” ESPN’s Zach Lowe said on his Lowe message podcast this week (h/t RealGM). “Rumblings! The coaching staff and the front office, or at least the head coach and the front office, aren’t exactly on the same page in Denver. In a way, it’s unusual for the NBA.”

Perhaps Malone is unhappy that the Nuggets let go of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in free agency, a key player for the team who had solid defense and good shooting from distance (40.6 percent from three last season) around the core of Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr. and Aaron Gordon.

The Nuggets haven’t done much to replace him either, with backup point guard Russell Westbrook being the team’s biggest addition this offseason. That means the less-tested Christian Braun is expected to slot into the starting lineup, and Denver’s depth in general feels like a potential problem.

Even with Caldwell-Pope’s departure, Denver has one of the best starting lines in basketball, but the talent is rapidly declining and that could hamper the team’s efforts to remain a title contender.
