Smyth moves into top five of Ryan Motorsport Insurance Autosport National Rankings

Only three circuit racing events took place in the UK last weekend, but there were still plenty of changes in the Ryan Motorsport Insurance Autosport National Rankings, with Jason Smyth the highest placed climber.

Smyth has taken a string of Formula Ford 1600 victories this year, adding two more at Kirkistown to take his total for 2024 to 12.

Those successes have seen him climb five places in the rankings to fifth place. More importantly, he is now just two wins behind current number one in the rankings, Piers Grange.

However, Smyth was not the only one to conquer Kirkistown on a regular basis and enjoyed success again last weekend.

Unusually, Peter Bennett only won one of the Northern Irish Mini races, but his single success was still enough to take him from 21st to 11th in the standings. However, had he won both events he would now be just behind Smyth in sixth place.

Craig Ewing was a double winner, aboard the Modi-5 Cup Mazda MX-5s, moving up 20 places to 23rd. He is one place above Tony Greenan, who led both BOSS Ireland battles.

Greenan was fortunate to win in his Dallara F317 in the opening race, although he only secured the spoils on the final lap when Michael Connolly spun. Nevertheless, Greenan has also moved up 20 places in the table.

Keith Hogg, who completed the double victory at Kirkistown, was once again dominant in Formula Sheane, returning to the top 50 in 31st place.

Elsewhere, Lewis Thompson took two of the Caterham Seven UK victories at Brands Hatch as he defends his title. He could easily have made it a hat-trick, losing Harry Senior on the way to the finish in race two, but he still climbs 18 places to 22nd.

Ben Timmons remains the highest-placed Caterham driver in the standings and although he provisionally secured the 270R title in Kent, he failed to add to his win tally and therefore failed to break into the top 10, instead dropping to 15th.
