Mysterious surfer captured on video saving bird drowning in waves

Social media users are trying to find out the name of a surfer who rescued a struggling seabird in Florida earlier this week. This video was captured on the internet.

Identifying the Good Samaritan on a surfboard in the viral video, however, has not been a “shore thing.” The video has been shared hundreds of times on Reels.

Brandon Terronez, who shot the video while walking on the Cocoa Beach pier, told FOX 35 Orlando, “He’s a hero to a lot of people.”

“We thought the poor bird might be dead at that point,” Terronez told FOX 35 Orlando.

Out of nowhere, a surfer gently picked up the bird in distress and placed it on his surfboard, before paddling back to shore.

“(The bird) was either underwater or had been pushed in by a storm,” Heather Pepe-Dillon told FOX 35 Orlando.

Pepe Dillon’s agency, Wild Florida Rescue, responds to calls for wildlife in distress in Brevard County, Florida.

“If this man had come to shore and called, he would not have been saved. So this is a fantastic case and we are thrilled to see it,” Pepe-Dillon added.

Wild Florida Rescue was not called in this particular case, but Heather Pepe-Dillon believes from the video that it could have been a sooty tern. The seabirds cannot survive if they encounter rough water.

“It was either soaked through or it was pushed in by a storm,” Pepe-Dillon told FOX 35 Orlando. “They’re getting colder and colder and they can get hypothermia.”

The video continues to gain attention on social media. “I thought it would be seen by a few people on my Facebook list,” Brandon Terronez told FOX 35 Orlando. “Instead, it’s blown up pretty big.”

One of the most popular comments is, “And then God created surfers.”

“It might only take a few seconds out of your day, like this surfer, but it can have a domino effect, you know, a lasting impact,” Terronez said.
