Eurogamer turns 25 | Eurogamer.net

25 years ago this week, two brothers from Brighton helped set up a video games website. They set up the fledgling operation in their parents’ converted garage and called it Eurogamer – a spin-off from a Quake 2 tournament they used to run, EuroQuake.

When I joined Eurogamer in 2010, the name was already a household name in the global games industry. The small gang working in a garage had grown into a team that would soon occupy a three-storey office in the city centre.

Eurogamer had built a reputation for writing fearlessly about video games and had developed a highly engaged, knowledgeable and loyal audience as a result.

It also still had something of the feel of a family business, a place where staff and audience understood each other, shared the same passions, enjoyed the same jokes and looked forward together to the publication of the next big review.

14 years later, I still believe that to be the case. And now I have the privilege of serving as Editor-in-Chief as we collectively celebrate the next major milestone: Eurogamer’s 25th anniversary.

This week we look back at the past quarter century with a few familiar faces if you’ve been following Eurogamer for a while. We also look ahead to what’s next for video games (and boy, 2025 is going to be exciting) and what we might end up in. another one 25 years.

And as for the present… well, we’re also launching a big new project, The Eurogamer 100, an annually updated list of our top picks for what to play right now. We hope it’ll be useful throughout the year.

For fun, we’re unlocking the ability to read Eurogamer as it looked at various points in our history, thanks to a handy theme switcher (yes, Eurogamer originally looked even more retro than it does now). And finally, we’re also getting on with our day jobs – doing what we’ve been doing for 25 years, plus many more to come: sharing our passion for video games with you.

Welcome to Eurogamer 25.

And thanks, as always, for reading.
