Yankees activate Anthony Rizzo from 60-day IL, make a series of other roster moves

Before Sunday’s rubber game against the St. Louis Cardinals, the Yankees made a number of roster changes, including re-signing Anthony Rizzo from the 60-day wounded list.

Rizzo, who has been out since June 17 with a broken forearm, will play first base and bat seventh upon his return to the team.

It wasn’t the best season for the 35-year-old, who has played just 70 games for the Bombers and has eight home runs and 28 RBIs, with a .223/.289/.341 batting average and a .630 OPS.

Meanwhile, New York also recalled right-handers Ron Maraccio And Scott Effross and also as an outfielder Duke Ellis from Triple-A as the selections grow.

The Yanks created space by taking options Am Rice And Will Warren on saturday.

Marinaccio has pitched well in 14 games for New York this season, posting a 2.53 ERA (1.03 WHIP) in 21.1 innings. In 99 appearances for the Yanks, the righty has a 2.96 ERA.

Effross was reassigned from the Chicago Cubs in 2022 and missed the playoffs that year and the entire 2023 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He began this season on the IL but began a rehab assignment in June before being activated in July and sent to Triple-A.

In his brief stint with New York, the 30-year-old posted an effective ERA of 2.13 (1.03 WHIP) in 12.2 innings.

Ellis, a former Met who was acquired from the Chicago White Sox this season, was acquired by the Yankees on August 26 from the Seattle Mariners, who acquired him after the Mets DFA’d him.

The 26-year-old made his White Sox debut this year and has appeared in eight games. Ellis is 0-for-4 in his career, but has scored one run and is known for his late-game speed, having four steals as a pinch-runner.
