South Carolina women’s basketball star Ashlyn Watkins was arrested Saturday in Columbia, South Carolina, on suspicion of kidnapping and assault, The Post and Courier reported.

While details of the incident are unclear, Watkins allegedly “forcibly” grabbed the victim, pulled her arms, and pushed her in a student housing center on the South Carolina campus. She also allegedly “grabbed the victim’s head and forced her to walk down the hallway, controlling her movements and preventing her from leaving,” according to a warrant obtained by WLTX19.

According to the report, the woman then managed to escape and raised the alarm. She was treated, but her life was not in danger.

Watkins was charged with first-degree assault and kidnapping after the incident. She was released on bail and is scheduled to appear in court in October. South Carolina reportedly said it was aware of the arrest and was gathering information, but had not issued a formal statement.

Watkins will enter her third season with the Gamecocks this fall. Last season as a sophomore, she averaged 9.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per game while helping the program to a national championship. South Carolina went a perfect 38-0 and defeated Iowa in the national championship game to claim its second title in the past three seasons.

The Gamecocks open their season on November 10 against North Carolina State.
