Colombia vs Paraguay odds, picks and predictions – Copa America 2024

Colombia and Paraguay begin their 2024 Copa America hopes in a Group D match on Monday as the streaking Colombians look to continue their good form.

Colombia enter the Copa America as the tournament’s most popular team, with an unbeaten run of 23 matches spanning more than two years.

However, my Colombia vs. Paraguay prediction focuses on the aggregate as I serve up my Copa America picks for Monday, June 24.

My analysis
Colombia have not won a Copa America title since 2001, the year the tournament was last hosted, but have finished third in two of the last three editions. The Colombians will have their sights set even higher this time around as they enter the Copa America on the back of an incredible 23-match unbeaten streak, including recent wins over the United States, Spain, Mexico and Brazil.

A rising Colombian attack, which has averaged three goals per game in its past five games, will be led by Liverpool winger Luis Diaz, midfield maestro James Rodriguez and River Plate striker
Miguel Borja, who scored 22 goals in 25 club appearances in 2024.

However, Paraguay could be a surprisingly difficult shell to crack. Colombia recorded a 1–0 win against Paraguay in an international friendly on 21 November 2023 – one of only three times in Colombia’s last eight matches in which they have been held to one goal.

The Paraguayans have conceded a total of just six goals in their last 10 games dating back to June last year, recording six clean sheets in the process. On the other hand, they’ve also only scored four goals in that period – and one in their last five games – so I’m not expecting much in terms of goals at either end of the pitch.

Along with less than 2.5 goals scored between the teams, I expect Paraguay to deliver another mediocre attacking performance as they have only scored once in their last five games. As a +490 dog, Paraguay’s best chances will be to lock up defensively and make this a slog for a more skilled Colombian side.

Colombia averaged 11.6 shots and six shots on target in international friendlies this year. They should dominate possession against Paraguay, easily hitting the Over with 5.5 shots on target.
