In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, England faced the United States of America in match 49 of the Super 8 Group 2 at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown. Won the toss, captained England Josh Butler opted to bowl first, a decision that proved advantageous.

The US struggles against England’s bowling attack

The US, opening with Steven Taylor And Andries Gous, got off to a steady start but soon found themselves struggling against England’s disciplined bowling. Despite brief resistance from Nitish Kumarwho scored 30 from 24 balls with one four and two sixes, and Corey Andersonwho added 29 off 28 balls, the American batting line-up faltered. Harmeet Singh contributed a late 21 off 17 balls, but the rest of the team could not hold out. Chris Jordan‘s hat-trick in the 19th over was the highlight as he claimed four wickets for just 10 runs. Adil Rashid also put in an exceptional performance, taking two wickets for 13 runs in his four overs. The US were eventually bowled out for 115 in 18.5 overs.

England completes an impressive chase

Chasing a modest target of 116, England’s openers, Philip Salt And Josh Butler, took the lead from the start. Buttler played a captain’s knock and scored a whopping 83 off 38 balls, including six fours and seven sixes. Salt supported with a steady 25 off 21 balls. The pair’s aggressive batting saw England reach the target in just 9.4 overs without losing a wicket.
