Kyle Petty Named Grand Marshal for NASCAR Car Hauler Parade in Darlington

DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) – A driver who made a name for himself at Darlington Raceway will return to Pee Dee next week to host a special event.

Darlington Raceway announced Wednesday that former driver Kyle Petty will serve as grand marshal for this year’s NASCAR Cup Series Hauler Showcase & Parade. The event is scheduled for Aug. 30, prior to the Cook Out Southern 500 on Sept. 1.

“Kyle Petty is one of the most reputable voices and personalities we have in our sport,” Darlington Raceway President Josh Harris said in a statement. “We are honored to have someone with a NASCAR resume be a part of one of our most beloved traditions at Darlington Raceway.”

Petty, the son of legendary racer Richard Petty, had more than 170 top-10 finishes and eight victories in a career that spanned three decades. At Darlington, Petty competed in 51 races with a best finish of sixth in 1991.

Petty currently serves as a commentator for NBC’s NASCAR coverage. He is also known for creating Victory Junction, a year-round camping facility for children with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses.

As for the parade, the haulers will depart Florence-Darlington Technical College at 6 p.m. on August 30th and parade their way through downtown Darlington and to historic Darlington Raceway, where they will load into the NASCAR Cup Series Garage. Click here for more information.
