Carrick Rangers 2-3 Glentoran: King says Glens’ Kane should have been sent off before Forsthye

Carrick Rangers manager Stuart King said Glentoran should have been reduced to 10 men before his team sent Kurtis Forsythe off in their 3-2 defeat in the Irish Premier League at home to Taylors Avenue.

King was unhappy that Glentoran defender Marcus Kane was not given a yellow card until the 32nd minute for a tackle on Carrick’s Joe Crowe, who was sent off after attempting to run away from the foul.

Forsythe was then sent off before half-time for showing Jonny Russell two yellow cards within four minutes.

Asked if he was “disappointed” by Forsythe’s red card, King replied: “I am. That’s all I have to say about it.”

King was slightly more enthusiastic about Kane’s tackle on Crowe.

“I think I got a red card straight away in the 32nd minute, before we went down to ten men.

“I don’t want to spend the whole season talking about referees. I want to talk about my own guys and what they can do to influence games. We made mistakes and misjudged things that ultimately cost us.”

King said his team had performed “really well” but the results were due to “individual errors”.

“Even when we came down to ten men and later nine men, we went for it completely.

“They celebrated as if they had won the league tonight, but that’s football. Fair play to them. They won a game in which we really performed at a high level, especially when we went down to 10 men. It’s disappointing.”
