Star Wars actor is ‘very surprised’ that The Acolyte was canceled after one season

The Star Wars TV series The Acolyte was recently canceled after one season. One person who was surprised by the announcement was actor Lee Jung-jae, who plays Master Sol in the series. This story contains spoilers for The Acolyte.

Master Sol dies in Season 1, so Lee would not return if Disney were to go ahead with a second season. However, the actor said he is a big fan of series creator Leslye Headland’s writing and directing skills, and hoped for a second season.

“When I heard the news, I was personally quite surprised,” Lee told Entertainment Weekly. But in Hollywood, anything is possible, and the actor isn’t giving up hope just yet. “Honestly, I hope that maybe things will change in the future. You never know what’s going to happen. I really hope we get to see more stories from Leslye’s second season.”

Headland herself may not have been all that surprised by the cancellation, as she told Entertainment Weekly in late July that she had not heard a peep about a renewal order. She did, however, have some ideas for a Season 2.

The reaction to The Acolyte’s cancellation was swift and furious, with much discussion about the show’s demise.

The Acolyte drew 4.8 million viewers for its two-episode premiere in June on its first day, which was a record for Disney+ at the time, and climbed to 11.1 million after a week. However, ratings have since fallen to possibly the lowest level ever for a Star Wars TV show finale.

While The Acolyte isn’t returning, Disney is working on more Star Wars TV series, including Skeleton Crew, which is set to debut in December.
