Bears DB Douglas Coleman III leaves preseason game in ambulance

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Chicago Bears defensive back Douglas Coleman III was carted off the field in a stadium ambulance during Thursday night’s preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.

In the first scrimmage of the second half, Coleman was injured while making a tackle. As players from both teams gathered around him on the field, Coleman was placed on a stabilizing board and then on a stretcher by medical personnel. His face mask was removed, but not his helmet. He was then placed in the back of a Kansas City Fire Department ambulance and taken off the field.

Coleman, 26, spent the past two seasons with the Ottawa Redblacks of the CFL. He played collegiately at Texas Tech and began his professional career in 2020 with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent.

ESPN’s Courtney Cronin contributed to this report.
