Scottie Scheffler or Xander Schauffele

For several days now, there has been a debate going on in the golf world about who is the most successful this season: Scottie Scheffler or Xander Schauffele. Both golfers have delivered impressive performances. On the one hand, Scottie Scheffler has achieved seven victories this season. On the other hand, Xander Schauffele has won twice, but the fact that both victories were in major tournaments adds considerable weight to his achievements.

Opinions vary among fans and golfers. It’s hard to give a definitive answer to such a question, but journalists have sought opinions from their colleagues who may offer the best perspective on who performed better this year.

American golfer Justin Thomas seems to have trouble making a definitive judgment about who is more deserving of the Player of the Year title, but he seems to place more value on winning two Majors.

“I’ve had this conversation with a few different group texts. It’s tough. I think it really depends on where you are in your career. For me personally, two Majors sounds way cooler than one.

But then again, six wins, all elevated events and Players and a gold medal sounds nice too. It might be better to answer that question if something happens in the next few weeks.

For me personally, I would – I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I think I would take Xander’s, just because of two Majors. But yeah, talk about a no-lose situation, those are two pretty good ones.”– said Justin Thomas, quoted by Golf Monthly.

Rory McIlroy responds

Rory McIlroyOften considered one of the biggest names in golf, McIlroy has also weighed in on the Scottie Scheffler vs. Xander Schauffele debate, even though his own recent performances have been less than ideal. McIlroy’s opinion differs from Justin Thomas’, who feels that Scheffler’s performances are more important, especially with his Olympic gold medal in the mix. McIlroy has long seen Scheffler’s potential and expected him to achieve great things. The question now is whether he expected things to turn out this way.

“Scottie’s. I think winning the Masters, an Olympic gold medal, winning, whatever it is, six times, it’s pretty hard to top that.

I’ve described Scottie as relentless, and this is just another example of that. He’s had an incredible few years. It was like he won the first one, it was like the floodgates opened and he found the next gear and the next level.

As a golf fan I think this is really cool to see.“-said Rory McIlroy.

Response from Viktor Hovland

Victor Hovland believes that the answer to the question of who had the best season may change over time.

He explains that, looking back from the future, he might have preferred to win two Majors, like Xander Schauffele did. While Scottie Scheffler’s accomplishments, including wins at The Players Championship and The Masters, are impressive, Hovland believes that winning two Majors could be seen as more important in the long run. In essence, he thinks that having two Majors could be seen as a bigger accomplishment in 20 years, even though Scheffler had a great season overall.

Ludvig Åberg’s opinion

Ludwig Åbergthe young Swedish golfer, finds it difficult to decide who deserves the Player of the Year award more. According to him, Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele would both have equal right to the honor, because it is difficult to give a definitive answer. Åberg described Scheffler and Schauffele as great golfers who have impressed him. He maintains that it is extremely difficult to choose just one.

Billy Horschel’s perspective

Billy Horschels perspective is quite specific. The 37-year-old golfer finds it difficult to make a definitive choice, but seems to be leaning slightly toward Scottie Scheffler. Horschel initially suggests he would pick both players equally, since he does not have a Major or Olympic gold medal.

He points out that Xander Schauffele has one more Major win, but he treats The Players Championship as a Major. Horschel compares the two by imagining that they both have two Majors, but he notes that Scheffler actually has a gold medal at the Olympics.

Jason Day responds

Jason Day is another golfer who has weighed in on the debate. He insists that Scottie Scheffler deserves the Player of the Year award. Day, who places great value on winning majors as the pinnacle of a golfer’s career, emphasizes the importance of these achievements. His opinion reflects how much golfers value winning majors and how important such trophies are in judging a player’s season.

“While I’m not knocking Scottie’s year at all, because it’s been amazing and phenomenal, I think he’s the Player of the Year right now.”
