Fans both adore and despise Vampire Survivors’ Darkasso update like some kind of cursed monkey paw – Destructoid

Developer Poncle has the Dark ass update for Vampire Survivors in the dead of night on August 15th, 2024. As players slowly realized that new content had been added to the game, they dug through the new Darkanas and quickly realized that they were completely broken in the best way possible. As long as they don’t crash your system.

Darkasso by Vampire Survivors update is a solid one with a new challenge phase, relic, the aforementioned Darkanas, new character skins, and of course a few extra surprises. It’s the Darkanas that are causing chaos for players, and they haven’t been shy about sharing their experiences in the update on the game’s subreddit. While some builds made with the items the update adds have crashed the game, everyone welcomes it because the builds that don’t crash your system are invincible. They’re like a cursed monkey’s paw to play with.

More power, but at what price?

The first few messages from players about the Dark ass update showed how it broke Vampire Survivors so hard that the game crashed completely. User Bonzi77 posted a great example in a good mood, saying: “I got so much movement speed that I had to struggle with the reality of my existence.”

However, there are now more posts showcasing the sheer power of Darkanas than there are game-breaking issues. This one from user RevolutionaryDraw662 shows how to make a build so powerful you can’t even see what’s going on.

My favorite is this post from user Dex_Belle showing their crazy run where they are stuck with a build so powerful that it can’t be defeated. “I’m too powerful… I need help. As I write this, I’m on the Tiny Bridge with over 80 minutes. By my count, I should have over 30 Reapers on screen. I can’t be killed. The round won’t end. These new arcanas are no joke.”

While it may seem like Poncle didn’t let this update simmer long enough, I think it’s probably mostly working as intended. The new area, Room 1665, looks like a real challenge, even for experienced players, and it’s only possible to complete it with the Darkanas added with the update.

Vampire Survivors will be released on PS4 and PS5 on August 29, 2024, with the Dark ass update included. Many of us have been waiting so long to play this version of the game, because it means we can finally add the platinum trophy to our collections.

The most exciting thing about the release, though, is that so many new players will be able to experience the entire game and these crazy new items for the first time ever. Poncole will undoubtedly fix the update’s system crash issues before the PlayStation release date, meaning that the next month or so will be a very exciting time for the community as they discover new and old content together.
