The Philadelphia Eagles’ new front five appears to be more stable as the squad enters the third week of pre-season training.

The Eagles fell apart in the second half of the 2023 season, ultimately falling to a first-round playoff defeat at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. During that game, the Bucs tackled Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts three times and hit him six more times. The run game also averaged a meager 2.8 yards per carry.

Any time those stats surface, it calls into question the offensive line, even a traditionally great line like the Eagles’ version.

On top of a poor end to the campaign, future Hall of Famer Jason Kelce retired.

There was a transition, starting with right guard Cam Jurgens, who moved back to his natural position of center. Right guard, meanwhile, was left wide open as training camp began. Well, the competition seems closed.

The biggest (literally and figuratively) revelation from the Eagles’ second practice game came from someone who didn’t play at all.

Tyler Steen entered camp as the favorite to claim the right guard position. Instead, Mekhi Becton worked every day to the point that the job was his, not even dressing for Thursday’s game.

Steen did. Unfortunately, he suffered an ankle injury during the match and did not return.

With the 6-foot-1, 350-pound Becton on the field, the Eagles are primed to overwhelm some opponents with Lane Johnson at right tackle and Jordan Mailata and Landon Dickerson at left tackle, who are 6-foot-1, 5-5 and 6-foot-4, 300 pounds, respectively.

Once again, Jeff Stoutland’s unit has the potential to take over the game and physically dominate opponents.
