Jannik Sinner honestly said he was far from 100%

A first step forward has been taken, but Jannik Sinner honestly assessed his physical shape, after qualifying for the 3rd round of the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati.

The Italian was good at never mentally leaving the match and avoiding complicating his debut at the Cincinnati Open. Jannik behaved like a No. 1 in the important moments and the eight break points out of eight he saved throughout the match only confirm his ability to change pace when the score demands it.

Thanks to the victory against Alex MichelsenSinner will have the opportunity to play at least one more game in Cincinnati to improve physically and be ready for the US Open.

“It was a tough match. He had played here three times before, while it was my first time. I tried to understand the circumstances and I’m happy to have made it through the round. This is a tournament I’ve been struggling with for years and I want to keep a positive mental attitude. That helped me win today,” Sinner said in the post-match interview, before focusing on his physical condition. The Italian suffered a new hip problem in Montreal, although he later reassured everyone.

“II’m not 100% sure yet, but I’m trying to get used to these conditions. The main goal remains the US Open, even though I couldn’t prepare optimally. But now I’m here and I’m trying to play as many matches as possible to improve myself.
“He played and served well. It wasn’t easy, but I can be satisfied with the level he showed. We’ll see what I can do in the next match. I’ll play at least one more match before the US Open,” he added.
