Rohan Bopanna, who celebrated his 44th birthday in March, is enjoying the form of his life. He currently holds the record for being the oldest player to reach the number one position in the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) doubles rankings, a feat he accomplished in January this year. His qualification for the Paris Olympics also makes him the second oldest tennis player to have competed at the Summer Olympics.

Bopanna is currently ranked number four in the ATP doubles rankings and won the mixed doubles gold medal at the 2023 Asian Games with Rutuja Bhosale last September. He continued his impressive form by winning the doubles title at the Australian Open with Mathew Ebden in January this year.

In the Paris 2024 Olympic GamesBopanna will have a three-year age difference with the second-oldest Indian athlete, table tennis player Achantha Sharath Kamal, and a staggering 30-year age difference with the youngest Indian athlete, 14-year-old swimmer Dhinidhi Desai from Bengaluru.

Despite being the oldest Indian athlete to compete at the Olympics, Bopanna is nowhere near the record for oldest athlete ever to compete at the Games, which is held by Canadian equestrian Jill Irving, who will be 61 when she competes.

Bopanna will compete in the men’s doubles event at the Paris Olympics, partnering N Sriram Balaji, who is ten years younger than his teammate.
