2024 Tour Championship: Scottie Scheffler leads Collin Morikawa by five strokes entering final round

World number one Scottie Scheffler heads into the final round of the season-ending Tour Championship with a five-stroke lead.

After a slow start, the American finished his third round strongly with birdies on four of the last five holes.

This left Scheffler with a score of 66, which put him at 26 under par and five strokes ahead of fellow countryman Collin Morikawa.

Morikawa had reduced the lead to two strokes on the first nine holes, but Scheffler recovered by hitting two birdies in a row on the seventh and eighth holes.

“I’ve had a chance to win some tournaments here and I don’t get a better chance than tomorrow,” said Scheffler, who is bidding for his first FedExCup title.

“This year I’m at my best mentally and I’m looking forward to doing that again tomorrow.”

Morikawa also finished strongly, birdieing three of his last four holes to stay close to Scheffler.

“It will be very difficult, but I believe in myself that I can do it,” said Morikawa.

“I have 18 holes left to play this season. I’m going to give it everything I’ve got for the next 24 hours.”

The biggest climber was Sahith Theegala, who took third place with five consecutive birdies, ahead of Xander Schauffele with 17 under par.

The winner of the Tour Championship receives prize money of £19 million.
