2024 Olympics: Jeremiah Azu enjoys redemption in Paris

Welsh sprinter Jeremiah Azu admits he felt redemption after finishing his first Olympic Games in Paris with a bronze medal.

Azu began his program in Paris with the disappointment of being disqualified from the first individual 100m series due to a false start.

Six days later he celebrated his podium finish after finishing third in the 4x100m relay, alongside fellow Great Britain runners Zharnel Hughes, Louie Hinchliffe and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake.

The 23-year-old Azu was grateful to win an Olympic medal at his first Games.

“It’s a bit of atonement for how things were at the beginning of the championships,” Azu said.

“We all work so hard for these moments, they are the moments we dream about once we start running.

“It’s great to start with something and achieve this early in my career.

“It feels great to be in this position now. This is not the way I would have orchestrated things, but I’m on a journey, I’m learning and this is part of the process.

“I would have liked to prove myself individually. I am in the best shape of my life and I am achieving results in training that I have never achieved before.

“Next time I will come back stronger and hopefully I can do myself justice, both individually and in the relay.”
