2024 Olympic Games | First day of skateboarding competition postponed due to bad weather

Paris: The men’s street skating competition at the Paris Olympics has been postponed on Saturday, organisers said in a statement, after heavy rain hit the open-air city park.

The competition day has been moved to July 29th.

A representative from the media center said the skaters were unable to participate because the surface of the street course was too slippery due to persistent rain on Saturday morning, making conditions unsafe.

La Concorde, a sprawling open-air event expected to draw thousands of people for break, skateboarding, BMX freestyle and 3×3 basketball events, remained quiet on Saturday with empty stands.

Workers walked across the marshy terrain and the skate park was slippery from rainwater, leaving the empty chairs covered in puddles of water.

It was a far cry from the vibrant “urban park environment” organizers had hoped to open the morning after a soggy opening ceremony that left athletes and fans soaked in rain.
