2024 Enquirer All-City Softball Team; Coach of the Year

Spartans’ Jason McCullough Named Coach of the Year for 2024 Battle Creek Enquirer All-City Softball Team

BATTLE CREEK ― For the first time in more than two decades, Lakeview’s softball program could call itself a district champion.

With 25 wins, a city title and a spot in the regionals, it was a season to remember for the Spartans.

For these reasons and more, Lakeview’s Jason McCullough is our choice for the 2024 Battle Creek Enquirer All-City Softball Team Coach of the Year.

The team consists of members of the city softball teams and is voted on by the city coaches and the Enquirer sports staff.

McCullough led the Spartans in his first year after former leader Brian Ratliff resigned after 25 seasons. McCullough led Lakeview to its highest win total in the city, then the Spartans (25-13) won their first district tournament title since 1998 after defeating Holt 10-6 in a Division 1 district final on their home turf.

McCullough led a talented group of Lakeview players who made All-City, including Brooklyn Berning, Faith Hewkin, Marin McCullough, Camille Oxley, Angelina Palma and Claire VanDis.

Harper Creek went 20-15 and adds All-City members Kennedy Halverson, Kaylee Kirkpatrick, Sophia Kline, Aleena Stahlhood and Breegan Woodworth.

Pennfield went from five wins to a 16-17 season and features All-City players Carolina Branham, Emilee Klacking, Avery Moran and Jenna Wiley.

The St. Philip/Climax-Scotts co-op team went 12-12, with All-City players Rylee Altman, Makenzee Grimm and Hailey Talbert also selected to the team.
