2 students injured after 179 bus and NTU shuttle bus collide on campus – Mothership.SG

Someone screamed as one of the bus’s windows shattered in the crash, a student said.

Two students were taken to hospital after a campus shuttle bus collided with bus route 179 at the Lee Wee Nam Library bus stop at Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

In response to questions from MothershipPolice and the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) said they were alerted to the incident along Nanyang Drive at around 10.15am on October 22.

Photos of the crash showed a large hole in the side of a Red Campus Rider near North Spine.

One of the buses’ rear-view mirrors had fallen on the road.

Another photo posted on Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu showed the floor of the bus littered with shards of broken glass.

A student from the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information who wished to remain anonymous was on the bus when the accident happened.

Most students had just gotten off at the Lee Wee Nam Library bus stop, so the bus had about half its original number of passengers when it was about to depart, the student said.

“As the red bus was about to leave, it collided with bus 179,” she added.

“I heard a scream as the glass shattered, but most of us were pretty calm and then we all just got out.”

Another student, Cheryl Tan, who was on a different bus but got off at the same stoptold Mothership that she had seen police and an ambulance on site.

She saw police emptying the contents of a bag over a garbage can.

Two female students, both aged 20, were taken to Ng Teng Fong Hospital while conscious.

A 67-year-old male bus driver is assisting with the investigation.

The police investigation is ongoing.

NTU and SMRT instructions

In response to questions from MothershipSMRT Buses deputy director Vincent Gay said there were no injuries among passengers on bus route 179.

He said the 179 bus was stationary when the NTU bus collided with it.

All 30 passengers were safely transferred to another bus to continue their journey, he added.

An NTU spokesperson said the school is in contact with the injured students, who are receiving outpatient treatment.

The matter has also been reported to the traffic police, the spokesperson said.
