19-year-old woman loses sight in one eye after paintball attack on Halloween

CHICAGO (WLS) — A 19-year-old woman is among several people injured on Halloween by suspects who allegedly fired paintball guns while driving through a Chicago neighborhood.

Halloween night ended tragically for Adrean Murillo’s younger sister, Vicky. The 19-year-old and her friend are both recovering from serious injuries after being shot by suspects who allegedly fired paintball guns as they drove through the neighborhood.

“What they said was that this car followed them around the block and then made a U-turn. They stuck phones out the window, started recording and then they shot the paintballs at them,” Murillo said.

One of the paintballs hit Vicky in the face and doctors believe her vision in one eye is now permanently damaged.

“Unfortunately, this is very unlikely, and if any vision is restored in that eye, it will be extremely blurry,” Murillo said.

Murillo says several of his neighbors were also shot by paintballs on Halloween, and he is frustrated by the senselessness of the crime that affected his sister and her boyfriend.

“They were both lying on the floor, crying and screaming, with their hot chocolate next to them,” he said. “I thought that was weird because they were wearing pink, fluffy things. I don’t know who would target such young women.”

The family says they continue to work with investigators as they find evidence on social media and in their neighborhood.

For now, the police say no one has been arrested.
