18-year-old Sara Centelleghe is stabbed to death in Costa Volpino

Murder at night in Costa Volpino, Bergamo. Sara Centelleghe, 18 years old, was stabbed to death by an assailant while in her home at Via Nazionale 142, near the town hall. The victim would have turned 19 years old in November. A boy of Indian descent, Sara’s peer, was arrested in Costa Volpino. “There is a direction we are following, we cannot yet speak of an arrest,” said Bergamo’s chief prosecutor, Maurizio Romanelli. According to what was communicated by the Carabinieri, “concordant evidence of guilt” was collected against the 19-year-old, who lives in an apartment in a building near that of the victim, and he was therefore arrested on charges of voluntary manslaughter. The first confessions of the victim’s friend The investigation by the prosecutor of the case, Giampiero Golluccio, focused on a 19-year-old boy, a friend of the victim, who was interrogated by the Carabinieri for hours in the Costa Volpino barracks and who reportedly made the first confessions. The young man was at the 18-year-old’s home while the friend went downstairs to get drinks from a vending machine. What happened After being struck by several stabs to the upper body with a kitchen knife, she left her home, leaving drops of blood on the stairs – where footprints of a bare left foot were also found – but collapsed lifeless shortly afterwards. It appears the young woman was in the house with a friend. The neighbor’s testimony According to the reconstruction provided by a neighbor to the local magazine Araberara, the girl had gone outside to buy a drink from the vending machine downstairs, leaving the 18-year-old home alone. Upon her return, she found Centelleghe in a pool of blood and called for help. Bloody footprints are also visible on the stairs leading to the apartment. ‘We went to sleep. I heard screaming and called 911 and my husband. We opened the door and saw blood on the stairs. My husband went upstairs and found a girl asking for help because her friend was dead. There are bare footprints leading to the garage,” the woman says. Who was Sara Centelleghe The 18-year-old lived with her mother on the third floor of a building on Via Nazionale, in the Portici district. Her parents were divorced. On social media, Centelleghe had dedicated a tender message to her mother: “A girl’s first love will always be her mother.” The 18-year-old attended the Social-Sanitary Institute of Ivan Piana in Lovere and spent much of her time with friends. The witness neighbor ‘From the screams I thought it was a domestic accident. I thought she had come out of the bathroom, slipped and fallen on her head.” Only later did Andrea Gollinucci, Sara Centelleghe’s neighbor, realize what had really happened. “The victim’s friend came out to ask for help, and I found the girl on the ground covered in blood and with several cuts. I realized that something had happened before, an attack – Gollinucci adds – and also saw the shoe prints on the stairs. Sara’s friend kept saying they were alone in the house. The first thing I thought was that there was a stranger in the house,” the neighbor said.
