16 national female volleyball players now in China for a two-month training camp

A delegation of 16 female volleyball athletes and 3 support staff are currently training in China for 2 months.

This is because women’s volleyball was one of the disciplines selected to participate in a three-year technical sports cooperation project between the governments of Jamaica and China.

The project started in 2018 and was scheduled to be completed in 2020, but was not completed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Of the athletes who participated in the program in 2018 and 2019, six would go on to be part of the senior women’s volleyball team that made history by winning the first-ever Jamaican senior volleyball title at the 2023 Cazova Women’s Championship in Suriname.

The members of the volleyball delegation to China are: Ramona Halstead, Jaysira Johnon and Jodian Myers from Moneague College, Zoya Callame, T’Amoy Stewart, Bridgette Lee and Aaliyah Mcleod from Knox College, Sherefa Morris and Jody Williams from Iona High, along with Kalaysia Blake from Campion College and Danielle Watson from Utech.

Also attending are Tahira Barrett from Mannings High, Sherayn Brown from Immaculate High, Malia Lynch and Marcellin from Wolmers Girls, Alannah Daley from St. Andrew High and Gabrielle Thompson from GC Foster College.

The support staff consists of coach Yolanda Miller, Keshan Livingston and Valencia Cowan, the team manager.
