‘1 Cancelled Fight and 1 Crypto Scam in 2024’

Undefeated UFC star Khamzat Chimaev’s recent call for a championship shot did not sit well with many corners of the fanbase…

It appears a year will pass between Octagon appearances for Chimaev, whose plans for a rapid climb to UFC gold and title glory across multiple weight classes have come under increasing scrutiny since his debut year.

“Borz” announced his arrival as one of the most highly touted prospects in recent memory when he reeled off three wins in three months in 2020. He has since competed four times in nearly four years, with health issues and reported visa problems making fights scarce.

The Chechen athlete recently defeated former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman in a short-lived middleweight bout at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi last October. But his hopes of a potential title shot were dashed when he underwent hand surgery and subsequently fell ill.

And when he was due to return to the main tournament in Saudi Arabia last month in a high-profile match against Robert Whittaker, he fell ill again and was forced to withdraw in the closing stages.

Despite this, Chimaev apparently doesn’t think his reputation will suffer at the top, going so far as to call for a title shot at the UFC 308 pay-per-view event in Abu Dhabi in October.

MMA Fans React to Chimaev Claiming UFC Title Fight: ‘If He Becomes Champion… Get That Interim Ready’

Chimaev has yet to compete in 2024 and has yet to defeat a top 10 middleweight title contender, so it’s no surprise that he has come under fire from many fans for his championship bid.

Some joked about the recent cryptocurrency controversy surrounding the 13-0 fighter, while others pointed to his history of withdrawals and misses at weight when placed in a main event position, suggesting he can’t be trusted in a title fight just yet.
